Beyond the Note

The note is the reason most providers start with Abridge. Everything on this page comes with it: a clinical assistant that cites its sources, evidence linked back to the conversation, a summary written for the patient, and dictation inside your Abridge notes.

Abridge AI

Ask clinical questions before, during, or after the visit and get answers that cite UpToDate primary sources; click View Sources to read them. Suggested prompts update as the conversation goes. You can also edit your draft in plain language; that part lives on Make It Write Like You.

Clinical decision support does not replace clinical judgment. You remain responsible for reviewing and verifying anything you use.

CME credit for using it

Open the Continuing Medical Education section from the Abridge menu and complete the learner profile. Then use Abridge AI as part of normal practice, and return there for your attestations and your transcript.

Linked Evidence

Linked Evidence ties every line of the draft back to the recording. Highlight a word, a phrase, or a paragraph in the draft and Abridge shows you where in the conversation it came from. The full transcript is in the Abridge tab, and you can search it.

Trust, then verify, before you sign.

Level of service suggestion

Below your Assessment and Plan in the Abridge tab, Abridge suggests a level of service based on the visit. It is a suggestion. Review it against your own documentation before you use it.

Patient Visit Summary

Every note includes a patient friendly summary written at an 8th grade reading level, in its own tab next to the note. Pull it into Patient Instructions with the .ambientptinstructions SmartPhrase.

Concise gives a bulleted list of the diagnoses discussed. Comprehensive adds a brief visit summary and an instructions section. You set this in Note Settings.

Visit Diagnoses

From the Abridge tab, pull the diagnoses discussed during the visit into the diagnosis section of the encounter.

Orders from the conversation

For outpatient visits, medications, labs, imaging, and referrals you say out loud are queued in the encounter for your review and signature, in Heard in Visit Recording. HIVR is available for outpatient visits only at this time and is coming to the ED and hospital later. Until then, in the ED and the hospital, place orders as you normally do. See ED and Hospital.

Dictation with Abridge

You can dictate into your note or any editable Epic field. Choose Dictate, or press Ctrl+period to start and stop, place the cursor, and speak. Move the cursor to dictate somewhere else.
