Your patient may see their results before you do

Once results and notes are final, they go straight to the patient through MyFreemanHealth (MyChart). There is no delay for provider review.

• Expect calls and messages about results you have not seen yet.
• Set expectations during the visit: tell patients results release automatically and when you will follow up.
• Sensitive results release too. Plan how you will communicate before ordering.

Not all notes, labs, orders, and images will be in Epic

Generally, about 3 years of recent clinical data converts from the legacy EMRs: Meditech, AthenaFlow, Clarity, and Avatar. Records from outside organizations are a separate matter: Care Everywhere brings those in automatically, and Care Everywhere or EpicCare Link: which one is which explains what arrives on its own and what needs a portal login. Need older records? Meditech, AthenaFlow, Clarity, and Avatar stay view-only after November 17, until the legacy archive is operational (estimated April 2027), at which point a button in Epic will launch you to those notes without a legacy login.

An order in the chart is not an order until you sign it

Case management, medical students, nutrition, and similar roles will publicly pend orders for your patients instead of signing them. A pended order sits in the chart where everyone can see it, but pharmacy, lab, and nursing do not treat it as active.

Check your patients for pended orders every time you round, read what was queued, then sign, edit, or delete. Signing makes the order yours. Student pended orders expire after 72 hours. Watch the walkthrough: Pended orders: who queues, who signs.
